"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do
something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the
something that I can do. What I can do, I should do. And what I should do,
by the grace of God, I will do."
Edward Everett Hale

Dear Friends,

Most of you know me as someone who consults you about your business' hopes and aspirations, not someone who talks about her own goals and dreams.

However, today, I am here to talk about my dreams and personal journey, one that is heartfelt, deep, and one that I hope you will support and respect. I feel a little vulnerable sharing something so deeply personal, however, I know that I must speak out, simply because I cannot ignore what is extremely disturbing to me.

This month marks the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina; therefore it is a seminal point, one that causes reflection and in my case, anger, sadness and rage. The rage stems from a love that I have deep inside for the city I grew up in " and anger at our government's inability to act. I recall the haunting images on TV " grandmothers stuck on rooftops, people paddling through town, the New Orleans Superdome and its sprawling mess.

However, what happened last summer may seem like a lifetime ago and we think: "What can I possibly do?" Most of us get involved in our daily lives, getting through the day, paying our bills, and planning for our future.

I speak daily to friends in New Orleans. They feel they have no future; they feel forgotten, and they are forgotten. New Orleans was a wake up call, and I, as a spiritual leader, feel I must speak out. My email box is filled daily " but none with leadership from other spiritualists who could truly mobilize the public. If we, as a spiritual community, cannot serve those in enormous need, than what good are my gifts?

Therefore, this note is a call to action, as well as to share what is in my heart and soul. For the past year, I have watched the developments in New Orleans; others have too. Spike Lee's documentary TONIGHT ON HBO FROM 9-11 PST chronicles the events of the last year. I urge you to watch, not simply because this chronicles one of the largest manmade disasters in history, but because New Orleans cannot be seen as a "one-off" deal. It could happen to any of us " it seems that more and more of the world is out of balance " tsunamis, fires, hurricanes " all things scientists say are directly linked to the collision between humans and nature.

And I have a second request: please review in Encarta the definition of Democracy. Please re-read what a Democratic environment is supposed to look like and feel like. We the people...

The response to the disaster in New Orleans was a sign of the symptomatic decline in our government, in what democracy stands for, and what makes our country great. We claim to be the world's finest democracy, and while we build "democracies" in the Middle East (to the tune of a trillion dollars right now. See: www2.gsb.columbia.edu/faculty/jstiglitz/cost_of_war_in_iraq.pdf) --  our country is degrading, civil liberties are eroding, and an avalanche of injustice has been unleashed.

We need our own help right now!

Edmund Burke said that; "All that is needed for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I urge all of you to join me in my quest for the truth. Educate yourselves, and others.  We need to wake up.

As part of my quest, I am making a documentary on New Orleans now and how the people of New Orleans are coping and moving on in their lives. While I could do this completely via my own funding, to accomplish something great, I know that I cannot do it alone. I am seeking funding; if anyone has ideas, or would like to contribute, you may contribute via PayPal or send checks to:

Bush showing contention regarding funding flooding help in California:

excerpt from above:
The governor, who like Bush has seen his popularity plummet in the past year, complained before the visit that the White House was resisting his urgent plea for federal assistance. Without help, Schwarzenegger has warned, California's levees, if hit with a natural disaster, could meet the same fate as those in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The governor and other state officials are asking for more than $56 million to repair the foundations of several levees and $3 billion more for flood control.
